Three Year Anniversary!

The Lovely Lulu

The Lovely Lulu

Welcome Pet Column readers – to the 156th Second Chance Humane Society Pet Column!!! That’s three years worth of humane education, pet behavior and training tips, spay/neuter promotion, pet psychology, animal protection activism, adoption promotion and much much more!  Essentially the Pet Column promotes the human-animal bond which Second Chance feels to be the most effective means of generating more responsible pet parenting (which equates to less homeless pets and pet overpopulation issues).

Another positive aspect of the Pet Column, written weekly by our various shelter pets, is that (other than Lulu who was recently featured in a Pet Column for her fourth time as she is having a difficult time finding her forever family) all of the weekly authors have found their forever families.  That is 155 successful Pet Column author adoptions.  Admittedly, some have been adopted after their soul-family read their Pet Column, while others were adopted just because their soul-person or family walked through the shelter doors.

As our shelter pets prepare for another year of writing the Pet Column, we want to check in with readers such as you about any particular topics that you would like us to tackle.  What other animal related interests would you like to learn more about?   Are there any changes you would recommend to the column?   We intend to further explore various aspects of pet health, training, and psychology issues as well as “cutting edge” pet parenting and bonding philosophies.

We also like to hear your comments and feedback after reading a particular Pet Column and appreciate readers who take the time to do so.  We don’t expect all readers to agree with what our shelter pets have to say and they make great effort to provide unbiased education and information rather than preach morality or pass judgment.  Although some topics they do feel strongly about and will let you know – like spaying and neutering…

If you want to review past Pet Columns they are archived on our website (address below) since January of 2008.  Columns written prior to that date are still being archived.  Some critical topics such as spay/neuter promotion have appeared more than once in the Pet Column but will be archived only once.

So please send in your questions and concerns and we will continue to do our best to provide you with the most comprehensive, direct, and applicable information that we can.  Thanks for reading, caring, adopting, and striving to be the best pet parent that you can be!

This 3 year anniversary Pet Column is dedicated to our Lovely Lulu, as we have had this sweet girl in and out of the shelter for 3 years and we are absolutely committed to helping her find her forever family.  As mentioned in the latest column spotlighting her, she is rather timid and takes some time warming up to strangers but she truly desires to bond with others, particularly those who are patient and understanding.  Come take her for a walk and get to know this smart dog in need of a committed loving parent/family.
