Wine & Whiskers – People Party for the Pets!

Party Girl "Marble"

“Party for the Homeless Pets!”  – that is my mantra. My name is “Marble” and I am a Second Chance kitty dancing in celebration about an upcoming FUN-raiser that benefits me and my shelter pals.  Curious?  Here is a recipe for an amazingly exciting night in Ouray County:

Take a very large room and mix wine, decadent and delicious chef samplers, fashion, music, live and silent auctions, a festive Mardi Gras atmosphere, dancing, and a high energy choreographed Fashion Cabaret!

These are the key ingredients for the Second Annual Second Chance Humane Society Wine & Whiskers Carnival – Saturday February 21st – and you won’t want to miss it!  It will again be held at the 4H Event Center in Ridgway.

As one of the major fundraisers for Second Chance, Wine & Whiskers offers a uniquely pleasurable venue for community members to gather, support the only animal shelter of its kind in the entire region, and celebrate Mardi Gras in style.

The evening starts at 6 PM with complimentary wine for the first hour.  The chef samplers, which last year included some New Orleans favorites such as crawfish, gumbo, and decadent bread pudding with bourbon sauce, will again be presented with artistic flair and taste.

The Live and Silent Auctions (stocked with over 150 items last year) consisting of donated items by regional  artists, businesses, service providers, etc., offer something for everyone such as Ski and Golf packages, adventure packages, a variety of art and jewelry, photography sittings, and so much more.  During the Live Auction you will even have an opportunity to bid on a brand new motorized Go Cart!

The major entertainment of the evening, the Fashion Cabaret, has many surprises in store for another “roof-raising” show and is being choreographed by dance and theatre talent Natasha Pyeatte.

And Telluride’s DJ Antone will be keeping the energy in motion after the Fashion Cabaret – spinning his infamous dance tunes while the full cash bar throughout the evening will also keep spirits in motion…

What more could one ask for but a celebratory evening for a valiant cause for the low ticket price of $35? (Tickets available at the door) If you have an interest in volunteering for the event (which gives you free admission and other perks) please contact Event Planner Lisa Katz at 729.2586.  Also visit the Second Chance website at for further details.

And don’t forget to dress in your favorite Mardi Gras attire – the tone of the evening being “casual elegance” – festive Mardi Gras wear is most encouraged…so get out there and “Party for the Homeless Pets!”
