Partnership with Love your Valley

Dear Pet Column,

I saw that Second Chance is partnering with the Town of Ridgway and Black Canyon Land Trust for the Love Your Valley Festival on June 14th. What a curious partnership… please explain.

Sincerely, Pondering the Partnership

Thanks for the inquiry “Pondering”, we have asked Rio to respond to your question. Rio is a shelter puppy here at Second Chance who, unless adopted prior, will be attending the Love Your Valley Festival in search of a new family. If you have further questions after his response, please give us a call at the shelter.

Hi. As a young puppy I am quickly learning that many things that don’t seem to make sense at first really do after further exploration. For example, the Black Canyon Land Trust, with a focus upon conservation of open space, wildlife habitat, and agricultural lands, is a great fit with Second Chance which also appreciates the need for open space for dogs to enjoy with their families. Second Chance also recognizes the importance of preserving lands for our wildlife friends to find food and shelter throughout the Uncompahgre Valley.

As far as the Town of Ridgway’s relationship, well the folks in charge of making Ridgway such a quality living experience regularly make efforts to promote positive community events. Events such as Love Your Valley, taking place Saturday June 14th in Town Park, bring families and dogs and conservation efforts all together to celebrate and further our connections and common interests.

So what is the Love Your Valley Festival? Better yet – what is the Festival not? – for it includes something for everyone – including fun-loving canines! For starters there is the 2nd Annual Love Your Valley 5K Walk/Run that allows outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the race course while supporting land conservation. Race registration begins at 8A.M. and the run kicks off at 9 A.M. in Ridgway’s Town Park where all activities for the Festival take place.

After the race you will return to a park full of food, micro-brews, live music and fun activities for all. For the kids there will be a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, and Face Painting beginning at 10am. Children and adult children are welcome to participate and win prizes.

Main festival events, including the Second Chance Family and Canine Events, run from Noon until 6:00 p.m. Second Chance Humane Society will be hosting various pet activities including a Pet Parade, Dog Obstacle Course, Pet Trick Contest, and Dog Training Demo’s.  Prizes will be awarded for several of these activities.  All events are free!

The Second Chance Mobile Mutts & Meows RV will also be on-site with adoptable pets hoping to meet their new forever families. In fact, if a pet column reader such as yourself does not come to adopt me prior to June 14th – I will be there too.

The Town is sponsoring featured bands throughout the afternoon such as Juba Juba and The Last Bus. Micro-brew tasting will also be available for $15 with an ID.  Well behaved and leashed dogs are allowed free of charge and do not require an ID.

So come on out and Love Your Valley and your Dogs!!!
